WSA Squash Junior Skill Level Open 2021 Tournament Recap
/Congratulations to all the players that took part in the tournament this weekend! It was a pleasure to see everyone on court having such a great time and putting their all into each and every match. The enthusiasm was seen up and down the divisions from first-time tournament players to experienced ones.
WSA had seventeen members participating in this tournament. For some of them, it was their first experience playing in a tournament, for others they won their first tournament matches and others simply added to their previous match experience.
In Division 1, Rashmi Narayanan put in a great performance coming in second. She had a great win in the semi-finals against a tough opponent from Apawamis. Liz Murray also played in Division 1 and won the consolation. She narrowly lost her first match in 4 games but was hitting great straight lines.
In Division 2, Hector Ghafourzadeh won his first tournament! Congratulations. This division featured three other WSA members: Ephram Cukier, Max Hegyi and Danny Abou Taleb. Ephram and Danny both made the semi-finals and Max played a great match against Hector in the finals.
Division 3 also had a WSA winner with Tommy Abou Taleb taking home 1st place! Congratulations Tommy! This was Tommy’s second tournament win in two months and he played really well to come back from a 2/0 deficit in the final. Well done.
In Division 4, Arav Dundon came in 4th place. This was Arav’s first US Squash tournament so congratulations on the achievement! Division 5 featured three WSA members with Carl Yoder coming in 2nd. Carl won a close semi-final against Macalistair Kmeta-Suarez who had made the semi-finals with a win over Jiya Dhakad. Jiya went on to play an incredible consolation finals which she just barely lost 12-10. Well played Jiya.
Division 6 featured a few first-time tournament participants in Sebastien Crosbie and Ved Dundon. Both played great. Sebastien came in 4th place.
Division 7 featured all WSA members with Elise Carpenter taking home 1st place, Nora Afzali winning her first two matches and taking home 2nd, Ava Apostolatos (who was playing her first tournament) winning one match and taking home third and Tristan Crosbie coming in 4th place. Congratulations to all.
The WSA was so proud to see all of the kids performing well on and off the court and showing great sportsmanship. Well done.
